EIGHT THERAPEUTIC HABITS THAT CAN ADD DECADES TO YOUR LIFE

Research has shown that there are eight healthy lifestyle habits that could add years to the lives of middle-aged people. The study, which was described by the researchers as "therapeutic lifestyle factors" is based on information collected from a study of almost 720,000 people of 40 and older.

In a review by the American Society of Nutrition, specialists found people who had adopted every one of the eight habits lived longer than those whose way of life did not include them. Specifically, men lived 24 years longer, and women 23 years.

 1. Not Smoking

For each individual who loses their life because of a smoking habit, over 30 people live with a severe smoking-related disease. Smoking can cause cancer, coronary illness, stroke, lung diseases, bronchitis emphysema, and diabetes.

 2. Being physically active

It has been proven that being physically active can increase self-confidence, mood, quality of sleep, and energy levels, as well as decrease stress and depression.

 3. Managing stress levels

Stress affects both mental and physical health which will, in turn, make you feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Learning to manage stress can help improve heart and mental health, improve sleep, and decrease the risk of disease.

 4. Eating a healthy diet

A well-balanced diet helps increase energy levels giving you the nutrients you need for growth and repair. Eating the proper foods helps you stay strong and healthy preventing diet-related illnesses, one of which is cancer. Not having enough nutrients in your body, such as vitamins A, B, C and E, zinc, iron, and selenium also weakens the body's immune system.

 5. Getting enough sleep

Sleeping well helps with illnesses as it boosts the immune system. It helps maintain a healthy weight level and lowers the risk for serious illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes. Being well-rested and maintaining a healthy sleep schedule reduces stress levels and improves mood, helping you think more clearly.

 6. Controlling alcohol consumption

Excessive alcohol consumption weakens the immune system making it easier to get sick. It has many long-term health risks including high blood pressure, heart disease, liver disease, and problems with the digestive system. It can also be the cause of many types of cancer such as breast cancer, throat cancer, cancer of the esophagus, the liver, the colon, and the rectum.

 7. Staying away from Drugs

Drug use may lead to many medical issues for individuals that have a dependency. These include social problems, many types of diseases, injury, violence, and self-harm.

 8. Having positive social connections

A better mental and physical health condition exists when people have a stable and supportive relationship with others. This helps them cope with problems they may face such as difficult situations, stress, anxiety, and depression, which in turn helps them make healthier life choices. Adopting these eight healthy habits is like taking a lifestyle medicine that focuses on the prevention of chronic diseases rather than just treating the symptoms, helping you live a longer and better life.
